Climate Action and Environmental Justice

First Parish in Milton advocates for the local community, Commonwealth and the world in the face of climate change through direct action, working to advance legislation, and engaging in public advocacy.  In May 2021, the First Parish in Milton unanimously approved the following commitment:

“Given the urgency of the crisis we face, our Congregation commits to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions and to practicing total sustainability in all congregational activities by 2035.”

In May 2022, an ad hoc Climate Action Team presented a draft plan to the Parish Committee and the congregation that begins to define a roadmap to reach our goals of zero-carbon emissions and total sustainability. Improvements to our buildings, refinements to our greenspaces, and increased education and advocacy are all essential parts of meeting our goals and doing our part to heal our precious planet.

Getting to Zero

“Getting to Zero” is a series of workshops at First Parish Milton created to help prepare the congregation for a vote at our annual meeting on May 16, 2021.

The congregation will vote on a proposal from the Social and Environmental Justice Committee which states our  commitment to reduce carbon emissions at First Parish Milton by the year 2035.

The workshops were recorded for those unable to attend.  In our journey toward climate health we will learn, together, what it means to become “net zero” and how to live more sustainably.

This is a critical issue, not only for our church but for our community, climate, and planet.
