Family Ministries Director

First Parish in Milton, Unitarian Universalist is a vibrant, engaging, civic-minded congregation seeking a part-time Family Ministries Director (FMD) to co-create, innovate, and administer a Religious Exploration (RE) Program for all ages.

This position presents an opportunity to work with a congregation developing a new religious exploration model for multi-generational engagement.  Current goals are to maintain an RE program for children and youth as well as exploring family ministry and multi-generational community building. 

We are seeking an individual with demonstrated experience and/or training as an educator, strong relational skills, a collaborative spirit, and interest in program development.   The successful candidate will align with Unitarian Universalist values, but prior affiliation with Unitarian Universalism is not required.  Dedicated to equity, diversity, pluralism, accessibility, and inclusion, we welcome applicants of any identity and ability.  

The FMD will report to the Minister, our staff team leader, and will collaborate with our RE Committee and volunteers.  The position affords the opportunity to create and engage in a professional development plan.

First Parish Milton A/V Tech 

Role 

First Parish has a small team of Audio and Video Techs, working under the supervision of a  mentor, who are responsible for the technical needs of First Parish’s Sunday services and  other events. Each member is expected to, after a training period, be able to work on their  

own, managing all audio and video related aspects of the service or event. This team works  to be self-managing and self-supporting. While not restricted to a specific age, it intends to  give high school teens an opportunity to learn technical skills and team responsibilities.  Senior team members train and mentor the new members. The team is managed by the  church manager and has a volunteer technical mentor. 

Technical aspects include: 

• Sound reinforcement for the church 

• Audio and video broadcast via Zoom 

• Service/event recording via Zoom or Video capture software 

• Simple lighting control 

• Problem troubleshooting 

Non-technical aspects include: 

• Working with people involved in the service to help you understand the audio and  video needs 

• Helping these same people understand what they need to do to make sure audio  gets to all people attending the service or event whether they are in the  meetinghouse or are remote 

• Senior techs are expected to train, support, and mentor more junior techs Helpful skills: 

We realize that most will not have all these skills, and training will be provided, but a basic  understanding of at least some of them will help: 

• Basic operations of a Windows computer 

• Operation of Zoom video conferencing software 

• Wired and wireless microphone setup 

• Operation of a 16-channel analog audio mixing board 

• Video camera functionality 

• Video switching using a 4-channel Blackmagic design ATEM Mini 

• Stage lighting basics
