This Week in Worship

10:30am in the Meetinghouse
So you’ve hired me as your interim minister, but what does that mean? What exactly is the role of a minister in a church, in this church? Am I just a place holder or is it more directed (of course if I was a place holder I probably wouldn’t admit it.) At any rate this week we continue on with the worship theme of Who, What, Why and How as I explain some of what I will do as your interim minister, and what expectations we may both have for each other.
I would be remiss if I didn’t say that it was a great Homecoming Sunday, last week. The first group I want to thank is our sleep deprived youth group and Sara Elizabeth for starting us off with bellies full of pancakes. I want to welcome Tim Steele and Tamara Ryan and thank them for their music on Sunday and Leslie, Jen and Chris who took part in the service and welcomed my family and me. Lastly let me thank Eliza Givens who did yeoman’s work making sure that the sound system worked! It was great start to a very exciting time here at First Parish.
See you in church!

Dinner & Singing at Lucy Stone Coop
The Lucy Stone Coop is an intentional community of people committed to living UU values in shared housing in Roxbury. On Sunday, September 14, a group of us from First Parish will visit Lucy Stone to share food and song, and also to learn more about the coop, plans for future growth, and some of the exciting new ways Unitarian Universalism is being lived out in greater Boston. We will leave Milton at a bit after 6 and return at appx. 9:20. If you’re interested, or for more details, contact Tony Dutzik via email or at 617-291-4685.

All Church Council. Please mark your calendars! All Church Council is open to anyone in the congregation that wants to attend.
The topic of the evening will be the Transition Period and our Interim Ministry. We want to be sure that all church leaders understand the general time line and plan of action for the next two years, the responsibilities and likely needs of our respective committees during this period, what we can expect of the Interim Minister and what he is likely to expect of us. It will be a time to learn and to ask questions. You will hear from the Interim Minister, from the Parish Committee and from the Transition Team.
At least one representative from each Committee should be present to report briefly for the Committee and to take back information from the Council. Please RSVP (yes only) to this email if you are planning to attend. Also indicate if you will need child care that evening.

The Link is a primary way to communicate to the congregation. If you have announcements for The Link, it needs to be submitted by Tuesdays at 5 pm. September 9 marked my first anniversary with First Parish in Milton. Time flies when you are having fun! It has been a good year and I’m sure another good one lies ahead.
Our home page has been redesigned. On the home page, you can now find the church calendar, set up your payment of your pledge electronically or go directly to the Members Page. Visitors are able to contact us, see where we are located and find out basic information on UUism and answers to all the basic questions about our church. We are still in the process of updating the individual pages. If you see something that is outdated, please let me know. This is a work in progress and so it is helpful to have other eyes looking at things.
I have put up a small white board between my office door and the Membership bulletin board. Please use it to remind me of a Sunday conversation or you want to be in touch or something needs attention. I am most often on “the fly” on Sundays. I attend a number of committee meettings prior to worship and during social hour I am connecting with a variety of folks including our newcomers. Way to many conversations for me to remember or give the subject its just due. I used a version of this last year which proved successful. The information also will be shared at our weekly staff meeting. You are always welcome to email me.
SOCIAL HOUR HOSTS AND OTHERS STILL NEEDED – There are many Sunday morning volunteer positions available. Usher, Greeter, providing Flowers, Chalice Lighters…
