Sunday Service August 30th
My name is Chris Clifford and I am hoping you will join me for summer worship in the woods.
Not truly forest bathing but rather mindful walking in one of the less frequented sessions of the Blue Hills reservation. Quietly, gently and softly moving through nature, inhaling life giving oxygen and phytoncides provided by the forest has been shown to reduce stress and prompt healing.
Anyone interested is invited to join me on a short walk over fairly easy paths.
We will meet at 9:30 on Ridgewood road less than a mile from First Parish and travel a loop under tall pines. We will see remnants of past habitation and the resilience of nature. This is a walk, not a hike but sturdy footwear, long pants, water, and bug spray are necessary. The walk is suitable for young and not so young and if you are willing, shine or rain.
Parking is readily available at the trailhead. I will have my silver Honda CRV parked there at 9AM.

Got Water?
When I asked a couple of folks what your first service of the regular church year is like, I was surprised to hear that you did not do a water ritual as part of the service. Now, I know that there are good reasons to stop doing things – and the water ritual is something that can become a travelogue that makes some among us uncomfortable.
And, I know that there are sometimes good reasons to bring traditions back after rethinking their purpose. We will be doing this with the water ritual. For those not familiar with this ritual, it is quite simple. We ask that everyone bring a very small amount of water (think shot glass or old-time film containers), or bring “virtual water,” or use water we provide. You will be invited to come forward while music is playing and add your water to the communal bowl.
This is more about symbolism than the water itself. It is about our inter-connectedness, our sharing what we can and knowing that it takes all of us to “fill the bowl.” It is about thinking about places important to us, about times when there is too much water or not enough water or the millions of people without clean water. It is about being a community.
So, on September 13th, my first worship service with you, I invite you to bring a little water and learn why I think this is a good tradition to re-introduce to First Parish in Milton.
With Love and Peace,
Rev Bev

WHY ISN’T EMAIL LABELED REV BEV?
A number of people have commented that the Minister@FPMilton email
address continues to look like it is coming from or going to Rev. Lisa.
Please be assured that Rev Bev is receiving all those emails. Here is what
I know:
I changed the label in my email address book.
When I send an email to folks who have not received emails from this address before the label says Rev Bev Waring
My best advice is to go into your address book and change the label to Rev. Bev.
If you have questions or difficulty doing this please let me know.
Peace and Love, Rev. Bev

ELEVENTH HOUR STANDOUT
Friday, September 11th
Assemble by 6:00 p.m.
First Parish Front Lawn
535 Canton Avenue (Milton Town Center)
This date is layered with significance including Rosh Hashanah at sunset and the anniversary of the World Trade Center Attack in 2001, and our current times are conflicted with many significant issues. Whatever your cause(s) — peace, jobs, healthcare, trans rights, affordable housing and food access, ICE OUT, immigration — this monthly event offers a brief time to unite. So BYO signs, flags, chairs, singing voices, percussion, friends, and neighbors. 30 ENERGIZED minutes will amplify continued resilience and resistance. Quoting Katie, a dedicated participant, “I believe events like this are important because they fuel us in this marathon and give us chances to connect with one another… feeling filled up with energy and courage, with a heart of renewed hope.”
The next event will be Sunday, October 11, same time and place. All are welcome.
