Summer Worship

Summer Worship

Slowing down is one of the special gifts of summer. Coming to summer worship allows you to slow down and savor the relationships we usually need to speed by during other times of the year – church staff, fellow congregants and even ourselves.

Summer worship will also offer some new ways of being together in celebration and prayer – something a little different from our beloved traditional liturgy and just right for the sense of freshness and possibility that summer brings.

Summer Worship will be held from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall.

All children are welcome to attend Summer Worship.
Nursery available to children under 4

Upcoming Services:

August 10 – The Alchemy of Marriage: What does marriage have to offer us once the fairy tale bubble has been burst? Worship Leader: Melinda Collins

August 17 – The Power of Song: In this age where music is constantly streaming and a part of the background, has the individual song lost its power? In this service we’ll reflect upon the various kinds of deep spiritual connections that can be made with music.

Worship Leader: Jeff Stoodt

August 24 & 31 Rev. Hank Peirce

Transitions

How YOU Can Help and enrich your experiance at First Parish during this period of transition.

1) Sign up to teach a Religious Exploration unit in the fall or spring of next year. You can lead a single workshop, sign up for an ongoing class, be a mentor to a youth in Coming of Age, chaperone a youth sleepover… the sky is the limit! We especially need folks who do not currently have kids at home to sign up. Contact Miriam in the office to sign up or to get more information.

2) Register your child(ren) for Religious Exploration classes for the coming year. (See below) It helps us greatly in planning the number of adults needed as well as which space we’ll use if you sign up early. Go on to the members page of our website to get those kids signed up for another year of spiritual exploration, fun and fellowship!

3) Communicate with the church office early and often about your committee or group’s plans and needs for the coming year, especially important dates that should go on the church calendar – events you want to schedule, meeting dates and times, and big plans you might need office support to carry out. Miriam Febres will be gathering this information. Contact her here.

4) Sign up to help out Sunday Mornings: Be an usher or host, have your child light the chalice on Sunday morning or give flowers for the Sunday service. Follow the link on the website “The Planner”. The Planner has been updated with dates beginning in September.

Rev. Hank Peirce is almost in the building.

Rev. Hank Peirce will be joining us as Interim Minister mid-August. He will be jump right in as worship leader during the last tow Summer Services on August 24 and August 31.

OFFICE UPDATES

Summer Office Hours:

Monday, July 14 – Thursday, Aug 28 Hours 10:00 am – 1:00 pm (Monday – Thursday)

APPRECIATION – To Kathy Bauer and Brian Bauer for rolling up their sleeves. They cleaned out our 2nd floor storage space. In addition, they prepared donations for pick up by Cradles to Crayons. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Technology Update: Website is being updated and reformattted. Office computers have been upgraded and we are almost back to normal. We hope that we are all set by the middle of next week. We are trying to practice patience but are excited to think about a well functioning network and updated software and hardware.

Summer News

Organ Repair Update. Thanks to the success of the variety of organ fundraisers and donations, the organ repair is in process. In late June, the repair was begun by having the blower removed and off to the workshop of Joe Sloane, our organ specialist and tuner. As of July 24, the lumber was delivered for the new storage room in the basement. We are moving right along!

Anyone notice that the Steeple Clock on all sides is correct? Our clock restorer and repairer has finally had time to make the repair and adjustment. It also looks like the Meetinghouse clock is finally working on time all the time.

FREE CYCLE FP MILTON STYLE! We have a typewriter we are willing to give away to anyone who will pick it up on or before August 21.

We are clearing out some office spaces and storage areas tucked away around the church. We will likely have some other items to ”freecycle”. The item must be picked up on or before Thursday, August 21st. Stay tuned for good stuff, free.
