Practicing Paradise
Rev. Parisa Parsa
with Emma Jean Moulton and the Meetinghouse Choir

’80’s pop singer Belinda Carlisle and much of Unitarian Universalist theology agree: heaven is a place on earth. What does it mean to practice seeing the paradise among us and bringing it to life? How can we do that together, and what does it mean to live as if it’s true?

SERVICE PLEDGERS

Do you have a story you would like to share about what it was like to complete your service pledge? If so, please send an email with “Service Pledge” in the subject line to Rev. Parisa at minister@fpmilton.org – She would like to include testimonials in upcoming worship services.

CHILD DEDICATION CEREMONY

Do you have a new infant you would like to dedicate to the care of the First Parish Community? An older child who is new to the community or never had a dedication whom you would like us to welcome formally into the spiritual care of this congregation? Please send an email to Rev. Parisa (subject line: Dedication) at minister@fpmilton.org – we will have our annual child dedication ceremony on Sunday, June 8.

News and Announcements

SUNDAY, MAY 4, 12 NOON – MEET WITH THE PARISH COMMITTEE IN A TOWN HALL STYLE MEETING ON THE FY15 BUDGET.

As things currently stand, we are approximately $30,000 short of the revenues needed to sustain our current programming for next year while fulfilling the promises we’ve made to ourselves to preserve our historic building, have reasonable expectations of staff and volunteers, and properly steward our endowment. The Parish Committee seeks your input. The proximate cause of this year’s crunch is a decline in the number of pledging households, which has led to a decline in overall pledges to the Annual Budget Drive versus last year.

The ideas shared at the May 4 meeting will help the Parish Committee decide upon the steps that must be taken to present a balanced budget to Annual Meeting on May 18.

The Annual Meeting is Sunday, May 18th at noon.

General Assembly 2014 – Help create a First Parish banner for Opening Ceremonies! June 25-29, Providence, RI

The theme for General Assembly 2014 is Love Reaches Out.

General Assembly (GA) is the annual meeting of our Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). Attendees worship, witness, learn, connect, and make policy for the Association through democratic process. Contact Kiki for more information.

A group of First Parish members have already registered for General Assembly. At the beginning of every GA, a colorful, joyful parade of banners kicks off the assembly, each one representing the churches and organizations present. It is carried by the members. Leslie MacPherson Artinian has volunteered to coordinate the creation but she needs others to help, particularly with the design. Please contact Leslie. if you are interested in helping with this project.

Here is a link to the pole design, and here’s a link to some banner ideas.

Take a look at the Information Table for information on Ferry Beach, Camp Rowe and other summer programs at UU affiliated organizations.

You may have noticed we are getting a paint spruce up in the Link and in the Parish Hall foyer. Please thank our Building and Grounds team for the work that have done and will finish shortly!

We are looking to add babysitters to our pool for Sunday mornings! Has your child recently completed the Certification for Babysitting? If he/she is interested in either being considered for helping in the nursery or getting on our list of babysitting referrals for parishioners, please let me know. The first step is to send a copy of the certificate to the office. Please Contact me for further information.
