WHY ARE WE OFFERING A KIDS SUMMER PROGRAM?
Summer is a wonderful time to get to know each other and to learn about our Unitarian Universalist faith through building community and having fun. We often only see each other for a short amount of time at church and this time is an opportunity to deepen our relationships and to invite friends and neighbors to join us for a week of fun, learning, and service. The values, principles and sources that shape our UU tradition can help shape our own faith each day. So let’s spend time together practicing joy, care, silliness and wisdom with our community!
SCHEDULE
The program will run Monday to Thursday 9am-3pm, with early drop off at 8 and late pick up at 4, if needed.
LOCATION
We’ll start each day under the big tree in the courtyard or in the Children’s Church if it’s rainy, except for Tuesday when we will meet offsite approximately 6.2 miles/15 minutes away from the church in Canton, so please plan to drop off and pick up your child at that location (specific location will be disclosed closer to the event since it is a volunteers house,). Each day will start with a chalice lighting and spiritual activity (sort of like we do on Sundays).
THEMES & ACTIVITIES
Each day we will focus on our of our Unitarian Universalist Values (Generosity, Interdependence, Equity, Justice, Transformation, and Pluralism) and everyday we will focus on how Love is at the center of all we do!
For each activity block we will do a mix of arts and crafts, games, and adventures led by caring, trained, and screened church volunteers and staff. A few examples include cooking activities, science experiments, tie-dye, obstacle courses, scavenger hunts, legos, service opportunities, and messy games. We’ll have a couple of planned options in an activity block and then additional options that are always available (like bubbles, chalk, and jump rope) if kids need something else.
WHAT TO BRING (we will send a more complete list closer to the event but here’s what to expect)
- Lunch (we’ll provide a small morning and afternoon snack)
- Water bottle
- Comfortable shoes for running around
- A change of clothes and/or a bathing suit (whatever would be most comfortable for activities that involve water, mud, or paint all over …. we’ll try to do messy activities at the end of the day!)
- Bugspray
- Sunscreen
COST & MAKING PAYMENTS
This program runs on a daily registration schedule so you can register for as many days as you wish! There is a one-time registration fee of $75 per family. This fee is paid only once, regardless of how many children you register. In addition, there is a $75 daily fee per child. This means the daily cost depends on how many children are attending and how many days they participate. For example:
- 1 child attending 1 day: $75 registration + $75 daily fee = $150 total
- 2 children attending 1 day: $75 registration + $150 daily fees = $225 total
- 2 children attending 3 days: $75 registration + $450 daily fees = $525 total
